Cooper W. Roe

Digital Forensics Intern (ManTech) | Competitive CTF | Cryptography

About Me

I’m a 19 year old digital forensics intern focused on disciplined technical development and applied security problem-solving. I love to cook, read, hit the gym, and get out and around my community. Although I am currently withdrawn from Virginia Tech, I am pursuing my associates degree through Northern Virginia Community College, with intent to finish my bachelors at Virginia Tech.

Highlights

Commonwealth Cyber Cup Champion (2x)

Back-to-back champion of the statewide CTF hosted by Virginia Cyber Range. Worked closely with my team each year to create winning results.

Digital Forensics Intern - ManTech

Worked across reverse engineering, cryptography challenges, and image forensics. Designed air-gapped LLM hardware infrastructure.

Certified to Work as Soon as Today

I currently hold CompTIA A+ and Security+. On top of that, I am working towards my AWS Cloud Practitioner and CompTIA CySA+ certifications.

CTF & Competitive History

What I do best in

  • Cryptography (implementation thinking, pattern recognition)
  • Forensics (disk artifacts, image analysis, timeline reconstruction)
  • Network analysis (PCAP triage, protocol reasoning, indicators)

Competitive History

  • Commonwealth Cyber Cup: 2x Champion
  • Workplace CTF: Won competing against senior forensics specialists

Current Projects/Focus Fields

Daily algorithm practice

Strengthening speed and correctness on core patterns used in security tooling and analysis.

Current CTF participation

I am participating in PicoCTF and National Cyber League's CTFs.

AES Project

Manually teaching myself AES (Rijndael) so I can adapt it into a CTF problem, as I can't come up with any practical use cases for a modified AES. I truly am just intreseted in understanding it further, and I'll link my handmade version using the actual math below when completed.

Forensics foundations

Using a homelab to create networks of VM's that I can attack, defend against, and just explore to better understand the network security. I'll provide my GitHub Repo of notes.

Python Projects

I have a few projects in my GitHub repository, all just fun little games that show I know how to use different aspects of python.

Certifications

It's mentioned above, but I'm currently working on my AWS Cloud Practitioner and CompTIA CySA+.
